Mary Leila Benton Russell

Mrs. Mary Leila Benton Russell, age 94 of Griffin, widow of Jesse Rhodes “Jet” Russell, passed away at her home on Monday, November 5, 2018. Mrs. Russell was born December 15, 1923 in Monticello, GA. She was a member of Griffin First Baptist Church. She was a school teacher for over 35 years with Spalding Jr. High School and retiring from Crescent Elementary School. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hamp & Ruby Benton. Survivors include her sons, R.H. “Hamp” Russell of Griffin and Thomas Lee Russell and Sara Underwood Russell also of Griffin; grandchildren, Travis Benton Russell & Stevy of Salem, OR and Jennifer Ellen Nicholson & Iain of Griffin. Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Leila Benton Russell will be held Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Griffin First Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Hardee officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery in Monticello, GA. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
