Jerry Dickerson

Griffin, Georgia

Jerry “Cowboy” Dickerson, age 69, of Griffin, GA, transitioned to live with the Lord on October 13, 2026, after a brief but brutal battle with pancreatic cancer. He passed away wrapped in love, hearing the voices of those he loved telling him that they will be okay.
Jerry was born on January 8, 1957, in Florence, SC. He graduated from West Florence High School in 1975 and went on to earn an associate degree in occupational technology and industrial maintenance from Florence-Darlington Technical College in 1986. Driven to keep learning, he completed the CSRT Training Program in 1993 and earned his Class A CDL license.
A proud veteran, Jerry received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1978. Throughout his life, he worked hard as a retired industrial maintenance technician, HVAC technician, and Class A CDL truck driver until he became disabled after a tragic truck accident in 2000.
Jerry was a man of diverse interests and deep passions. He was an avid collector of miniature cars and trucks, black cowboy memorabilia, Buffalo Soldiers memorabilia, and Barack and Michelle Obama memorabilia. He loved watching sports, attending concerts, gardening, working in the yard, camping, traveling, going to the casino, and listening to music. He was the life of the party, always ready to play family games and tell jokes. Most importantly, he vividly loved his family. Though his spirit was willing and his heart longed to stay, his body could no longer keep up with his fierce desire to remain. He held on for his family as long as he could, shielding them from watching him deteriorate further.

He was the devoted and deeply loved husband of 42 years to Peggy M. Dickerson, whom he lovingly called “Crazy Horse.” Together, they built a beautiful legacy of love and family.

Jerry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Buster and Bessie Burgess; his parents, Andrew and Daisy Dickerson; his brother, Jimmy Dickerson; his sister, Linda Jenkins; and his parents-in-law, Rev. Joshua and Louise Middleton.

Left to cherish his precious memories are his wife, Peggy; his four children, Angela D. (Jonathan) Lunnon of Florence, SC, Joshua Travis Dickerson of Forest Park, GA, Jerry Benjamin (Dricka) Dickerson (currently stationed in Honolulu, HI), and Dr. Kymberly L. Williams of Stockbridge, GA; and his 16 grandchildren, Destiny, Joshua II, Soleil, Jhane, Serenity, Jonathan Jr., Justice, Malachi, Abraham, Elizabeth, Malik, Zion, Skylar, Lillian, Samaya, and Semaj.

He also leaves behind his brother, Andrew (Veronica) Dickerson of Florence, SC; his sisters, Emma Jean Ellis of Florence, SC, and Elease “Shirley” McGillof Lancaster, PA; his brothers-in-law, Joshua (Ponda) Middleton, Jay (Amy) Middleton, Jacob (Florence) Middleton, and James (Natasha) Middleton; his sisters-in-law, Janie Fields and Connie (Larry) Snipe; as well as a loving host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Cremation has occurred. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 20, 2026, at 1:30 PM at Haisten McCullough Funeral Home, located at 1155 Everee Inn Road, Griffin, GA. Visitation with the family will take place one hour prior to the memorial service. In memory of Jerry, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
