Henry David Pounds

Henry David Pounds, 68, of McDonough, formerly of Griffin, died Monday, March 30, 2026, at his home. Born in Griffin, March 7, 1958, he was a son of the late Ernest Talmadge Pounds, Sr. and Opal Mitchell Pounds. Henry was retired after over twenty years of service from McDonald Chapel Funeral Home, where he worked with his friend, who became more like a brother, Gene Turkett. Henry loved the funeral business and formerly collected hearses, some of which he refurbished and sold to local funeral homes. Henry had a fun and loving spirit. He enjoyed Karaoke and was an avid fisherman, often waking everybody in the house up at 3:00 AM to join him. He had a true servant’s heart and would do anything he could to help anybody. One of his favorite projects was helping Westwood Gardens during Christmas for the Annual Candle lighting. He had given of his time to fold bags for the candles, put out candles, make sure they were all lit and even stayed to make sure they were all out, every single year, including Christmas of 2025 in his illness, since the candle lightings inception thirty-five years ago. Henry adored all animals and cared for many. He will be missed by all those who love him so dearly. He was a loving husband, hero of a daddy and the best papa anybody could ever dream of. He was a member of Carver Road Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of thirty-seven years, Bobbie Dean Hughs Pounds, in 2019; and a brother, Ernest T. Pounds, Jr. Surviving is his only daughter, Kimberly Pounds Tatum and husband Steven, with whom Henry made his home; grandchildren, Hannah, Katelyn and Henry Borjas; a sister, Linda Williams; a brother, William Pounds; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Henry David Pounds will be conducted Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Westwood Gardens.
