Dorothy Freeman Jones

Dorothy Freeman Jones went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 9, 2023. Dorothy was born to Ruby and Luvin Guy Freeman on May 27, 1930 in Forsyth, Georgia. She graduated from Milner High School in 1948 and married the love of her life, Herbert Jones, on September 5, 1948. Dorothy and Herbert raised and loved two sons, Russ and Mark, and were married for 60 years before his death in 2008. Dorothy retired from Dundee Mills in Griffin, where she was one of the first female supervisors. She later volunteered for Spalding Regional Medical Center as a Pink Lady until 2019. She was an active member of Second Baptist Church of Griffin for many years, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir and later found her home at Oak Hill Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, three sisters and her husband Herbert. She loved her family, ladies’ nights with her friends and the Atlanta Braves. She was known and loved for her quick, dry wit. Survivors include two sons, Russ Jones (Regina) of Covington, Dr. Mark Jones (Donna) of Winterville, NC; Special Daughter Belinda Jones of Statesboro, GA, grandchildren, Russell Jones of Statesboro, Rachel Jones of Arlington, VA, Sam Jones of Asheville, NC and Beth Jones of Chicago, IL; great grandchild, Lily Aiello of Asheville, NC, step-grandchildren, Lyndsie Caldwell (Michael) and Kristin Robinson; step-great grandchildren, Kaiden Grusing, Ava Robinson, Wyatt Caldwell and Taylor Caldwell; a sister, Deborah Glover (Mike) of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home with Reverend Ron Cook and Chaplain Winfred Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in Westwood Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 AM until the service hour at the funeral home. The family is especially grateful to the staff at Eternal Hope Hospice who cared for Mrs. Jones in her final months.
