David Wayne Colwell

David Wayne “Klondike” Colwell, 64, of Griffin, husband of Cheryl Ann Anders Colwell died Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Wellstar Spalding Regional Medical Center. Born in Hampton, NY, April 29, 1957, he was a son of the late Leonard Howell Colwell and Kathryne Lucille Phillips Colwell. Mr. Colwell earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from St. Leo University and Master’s degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University. He was began serving as Police Chief in 2003 at Lake City Police Department and retired in 2018. Mr. Colwell had been in Law Enforcement for over thirty-five years and was a lifetime member of Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police. Mr. Colwell was a member of Rock Springs Church where he was a former deacon and had served with the church security. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Steven Colwell. Surviving in addition to his wife of thirty-five years are three children, Lindsey Takle and her husband Dr. Leiv Tackle, Jr. of Forsyth, Elic Colwell and wife Sandyn Colwell of Athens and Katie Carroll and husband Adam Carroll of Griffin; seven grandchildren, Macie, Isabella, Liam, Finley, Pyke, Sutt and Tyde; two brothers, Scott Colwell of Atlanta and Randy Colwell and wife Vicki of Panama City, FL; and two nephews also survive. Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 AM at Rock Springs Church with Dr. Benny Tate and Pastor Harold Simmons officiating. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday from 10:00 AM until the service hour. Honorary escort will be members of the Lake City Police Department and any other member of a Law Enforcement Agency who has supported and known Mr. Colwell throughout the years.
