Bickley Woodrow “Woody” Smith, Jr., 82, of Williamson, husband of Janice Couch Smith, went to be with the Lord peacefully at home after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Born in Griffin, November 7, 1941, he was a son of the late Bickley Woodrow Smith, Sr. and Elizabeth Katherine Shell Smith. His mother carried him for months being told he would be stillborn, but he lived to declare the goodness of the Lord. Woody retired after thirty-two years of service from the Georgia Department of Transportation. Upon retirement he served grieving families at Haisten McCullough Funeral Home for over ten years. Mr. Smith attended Rock Springs Church in Milner. Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty-eight years are a son, Chris Smith and wife Stacy of McDonough; daughter, Patty Smith Banks and husband Matt of Brooks; grandsons, Joshua Smith and wife Margaret of Nashville, GA and Nathaniel Smith and wife Samantha of Locust Grove; great-granddaughters, Abigail Lynn Smith and Emersyn Blair Smith; brother, Jack Smith and wife Frances of Griffin; niece, Sonya Baird and husband Tracey; nephew, Eric Smith and wife Kelly; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and a special addition to the family, Deborah Garrett also survive.. Funeral services for Bickley Woodrow “Woody” Smith, Jr. will be conducted Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home with Dr. Benny Tate officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nathaniel Smith, Joshua Smith, Tracey Baird, Joe Stevenson and Philip Gibbs. Honorary escort will be Eric Smith, Rod Rosenthal, Frank Bush and Mike Jones. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 PM until the service hour at the funeral home.
