Virginia "Jennie" Josephine Chappell Barnhart

January 12, 1935 - June 16, 2021

Virginia (Jennie) Josephine Chappell Barnhart 86, of Griffin, widow of Neil Duane Barnhart died Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at her home. Jennie was born in Tiftonville, TN, January 12, 1935. She was the daughter of late Roy Wilson and Dorthy Marie Human Chappell. Mrs. Barnhart was formerly employed with Santa Fe Railroad from 1979-1986 and later worked for Clayton County Sherriff’s Office, where she retired in 2000. Jennie was a loyal member of Griffin VFW as well as a proud member of the Griffin Moose Lodge #1503 for many years. Jennie was also a long time member/sister of the Brownwood, Texas Eastern Star Chapter 116. She loved eating at the Waffle House. She enjoyed traveling and going to casinos and was very passionate about animals. In addition to her husband, which was her high school sweetheart, Mrs. Barnhart was preceded in death by an infant child, Neil Duane Barnhart, Jr. Survivors include a son Thomas LeRoy Barnhart of Griffin; a daughter, Lorenda Marie Hearn and husband James David Hearn of Sharpsburg; grandchildren, Tommy Barnhart and Candace, Dillon Barnhart and Megan, Cash Barnhart and Ashley, Destiny Barnhart, Rio Barnhart, James David Hearn II (Jimmy) and McCall, Taylor Boles and Mitchell, Dalton Hearn and Chyna; numerous great grandchildren; siblings, Buddy Chappell and Janet, Dottie Nall, Patti Marascio and Lou, Cindy Henson; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, July 25, 2021 at 3:00 PM from the Chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home with Reverend Clint Holder officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 PM until the service hour at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorials be made to Royal Animal Refuge.
