Violet Nellie Jean Carter Laidler, 81, of Thomaston, formerly of Zebulon, widow of James Russell Laidler, died Friday, December 10, 2021 at Providence Healthcare in Thomaston. Born in Rutherfordton, NC, July 11, 1940, she was a daughter of the late William Henry Curtis Carter and Nellie Mae Stinchcomb Carter. Mrs. Laidler was formerly employed with Crystal’s, Dairy Queen and had also worked with Woolworth Department Store for many years behind the lunch counter. She later became a caregiver for the elderly. She enjoyed spending time with friends at the Pike County Senior Center and the Salvation Army “Lunch Bunch” where she went on many trips and playing Bingo. Mrs. Laidler was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Griffin. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Lee Laidler Preston of Griffin and Vanessa Laidler Lindsey of Zebulon; grandchildren, Rusty Preston and wife Crystal, Kathy Martin and David Turner, Betty Smith and fiancée Josh Dodson, Eric Lindsey and wife Hayley, Phillip Lindsey and fiancée Abby McMillan and Karlee Lindsey and Nathan Cowart; great grandchildren, Caspain, Luke, Katrina, Victoria and Jayden and Ashley and Chris; great-great grandchildren, Brayson and Adaline; and a sister, Martha Loraine Carter McBride of Sandersville. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 13, 2021 at 4:00 PM from the Chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home with Bishop Lewis Governo officiating. Burial will follow in Westwood Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 3:30 PM until the service hour.
