Thomas Gerald "Tom" Vause

Thomas Gerald “Tom” Vause, 88, of Griffin, husband of Mary Liz Thomas Vause died Thursday, April 14, 2022 at his home. Born in Rockford, IL, April 19, 1933, he was a son of the late Maurice John Vause, Irene Lamb Vause Johnson, and step-father, Roy Johnson. Mr. Vause was a US Army Veteran. After his honorable discharge, he worked for the Bell Telephone Company. He later worked with the Dietz Company for over twenty-five years where he became their national sales manager. Tom thoroughly enjoyed his travels while in sales, and generously shared his wealth of knowledge of various cities with others. He later co-owned and operated V and O Sales. He then worked for sixteen years as the Assistant Director with the Christian Enrichment Center at First United Methodist Church in Griffin. Mr. Vause was a member of Griffin First United Methodist Church and the Forum Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: step-son, Dee Hunter; brother, Jack Vause and his wife, Marilyn; and brother, David Vause. Tom is survived by his wife of twenty-six years, Mary Elizabeth Vause. In addition, he is survived by his son, Jeffrey Vause and wife Linda of Fayetteville, NY; two step-daughters, Julie Layman and husband Todd of Florida and Terry Hunter Colwell and husband Tim of Macon, GA; honorary daughter, Jennifer Vining of Griffin, GA; grandchildren, Justin Vause, Hannah Vause, and Will Vause; step-grandchildren Christa Conn and husband Bill, Cassie Zika and husband Nick and Chaz Curtis and Hannah, and Christian Hunter; great-grandchildren, William Conn, Carsyn Conn, Thomas Zika, Matthew Zika, Owen Zika, Seth Curtis and Charlee Harbuck; a sister, Jill Faith and husband Jack of Carlisle, PA; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Vause of Mesa, AZ; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Joann Powers of Williamson; and several nieces and nephews. Tom’s family would like to sincerely thank Regina Sampler, Emily McKinley, Kyela Raven, and Erin Coan for the special care they gave Tom. Each of them went above and beyond to comfort Tom and his family. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 3:00 PM at the Griffin First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. John Mattox officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Barnesville. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 30, 2022, from 1:30 PM to 2:45 PM in the fellowship hall at the church.
