Mrs. Essie Mae "Maddie" Reeves Harris,75 of Griffin transitioned from her earthly life on Wednesday, June 21,2023 at Wellstar Spalding Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Essie Reeves Harris was born in Griffin on January 19,1948 to the late Essick Lee and Ruby Lee Gilbert Reeves. Leviticus 19:3 "Every one of you shall revere his mother and father, and you shall keep my Sabbaths: I am the Lord your God." She retired from The Living Center in Griffin, GA to take on the role of caregiver to her mother. Essie joined Corinth Baptist Church at a very young age. She also served as a member of the Pastor's Aide Committee. Mrs. Essie Harris was known to her family and friends as “Maddie”. With her sassy, stubborn ways and frank honesty that fitted her perfectly having tough skin around her was a must. Mixing her frankness and compassion while smothered and diced with love. Oh, what a great cook was she. On any given Sunday and especially holidays her looking in cookbooks and magazines for newer and more tasteful upgrades to recipes that was already unmatched was normal for her to share with her family. It was definitely Bon Appetit coming from Maddie's kitchen until her health declined. Fashion, Fashion, Fashion Maddie was a fashion enthusiast taking pride in being well dressed, classy and stylish. With her out of this world hat, suit and dress collection coordinating everything perfectly. Essie also was a profound decorator having her house aesthetically beautiful from the front door to the back door. Maddie was the family Matriarch. Being more than an Aunt to her nieces and nephews her loved extended out to her great-nieces and great-nephews and there kids as well. 1 Corinthians 13:13 "So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love". Mrs. Essie “Maddie” Reeves Harris was preceded in death by her only child who was the light of her world Cheryl Diana Reeves; sisters, Evelyn Gilbert Hicks, Jessie Mae Gilbert Brown, Carrie Lee Gilbert Davis, Nellie Pearl Gilbert Parker, Emma Lou Gilbert, Mittie Ann Reeves Bell and Corine Reeves Bradford: brothers, Ulyssee Gilbert and Luther Reeves. Surviving relatives are her grandson Larry Monteze King who was the apple of her eye and the spring to her steps;4 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Larry, Christopher and Dakota; a loving sister, Sarah Reeves Knox; sister-in-law, Carmen Lou Gilbert of Miami, Florida; extended son, Manuel Willis; former husband and devoted friend, Robert Harris, who held his formal vows in sickness and health until Essie's death. She also has a plethora of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who will miss her and loved her dearly. Although each person simply can not be named please know that each one of you held a special place in her heart. The family would like to send a Special thank you to all of the caregivers who have been with Maddie throughout the years; Victoria, Jamekia, Magdala and Dasia. You each went over and beyond and we are grateful. A repass will follow at the home of her sister, Sarah Knox, 1225 Meriwether Street, Griffin. Funeral services for Essie Mae Harris will be conducted Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Westwood Gardens.
