Angeline Haisten Hayes, 89, passed away April 26, 2019, at her home in Atlanta, Georgia, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born November 19, 1929, in Griffin, Georgia, to the late John Guye and Elizabeth Haisten, she married Marvin Lewis Montgomery on December 19, 1953, and they had three children, John, Luanne and Marilisa. When her husband died while on active duty as a USAF captain stationed in Okinawa in 1965, she returned to Griffin with their children. She married Zach Clark Hayes, III, on January 27, 1972, and they enjoyed many years together in Griffin, Atlanta and Suwanee until his death in 2007. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Claudette Haisten Crandall. A lifelong Methodist, Angeline was most recently a member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church and the Blazers Sunday School class. She was also a member of the Cherokee Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by her children: John Montgomery (Jane), Luanne McClelland (Denny) and Marilisa McGrath; grandchildren: John and Caroline Montgomery, Mary Elizabeth Montgomery Pace (Tyler), Dennis McClelland (Tessa), Mason McClelland, Lauren McClelland Darden (Tad), and Jack, Mike and Clara McGrath; great-grandchildren: Griffin Pace and Molly and Emma McClelland; sister-in-laws: Shirley Montgomery Owens (Tom), Joyce Montgomery Douglass, Sarah Clegg Montgomery and Charlotte Hayes Copper (Bob); cousins: Harry G. Haisten, Jr. (Sandra), Judy Haisten Gattis (Charles), Dottie Haisten Spencer (David); and, 17 nieces and nephews. The family extends deep appreciation to Beth Scott for the care she provided Angeline in her final weeks and to her many friends at Cathedral Towers for their treasured friendship. A celebration of Angeline’s life will be held Saturday, May 11, 2019, at 3 p.m. at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, 3180 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30305, with Senior Pastor Rev. Bill Britt and Dr. Charles Gattis officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Per her wishes, Angeline’s body was donated to the Emory University School of Medicine.
