William Henry Hicks Jr.

Mr. William Henry Hicks was born in Jeffersonville, Georgia, on December 21, 1933, to the late Mary and Henry Hicks. He departed this life on March 19, 2021, in McDonough, Georgia. William Henry was married to Sarah Mae Bryant; to their union, a son was born, Raymond Hicks. As a young man, William set out to pursue his dream of a better life. That dream led him to Paterson, New Jersey, where he met and married his wife of nearly 64 years. His life up north was prosperous, but his heart always longed to someday return to his birthplace, Georgia. In 1980, he and his family packed up their belongings and relocated to his beloved home state of Georgia. Mr. Hicks was always a very ambitious fellow; he worked primarily as an interstate truck driver with Yellow Freight Lines for over forty years. In addition to his full-time employment, he managed to become a successful entrepreneur. Mr. Hicks owned and operated a Fresh Produce Company, Rental Properties, and a Family-Style Restaurant with his wife. In 2001, he retired from Yellow Freight Line. Deacon Hick as many would refer to him, was a Man of God, a devoted church member. He was baptized and received the Holy Spirit. In 1985, Deacon Hicks joined his wife, Pastor Sarah Hicks in establishing, Shekinah Temple Deliverance Pentecostal Church, in which he was a co-labor with his wife in the Ministry. William is best known for his big heart, exuberant smile, and infectious hardy laugh. He never met a stranger; he was liked and loved by all. He was a good father and loving husband, and he provided for his family well. His giving heart and wise counsel have impacted the lives of many. Although he will be significantly missed, his spirit will live on in the many lives he touched. William Henry Hicks is survived by his loving wife, Sarah Mae Hicks; one son Raymond Hicks, one daughter-in-law, Dirona Hicks, and one God-son, Dennis Bryant (preceded him in death). He has three grandchildren, Raymond Andrew Hicks, Russ Hicks, Raigan Reynolds and spouse Dariel Reynolds. Two great-grandchildren Railyn and Rylee Reynolds. Two brothers preceded him in death, Leonard and Raymond Hicks. He leaves behind five siblings: Fannie Riggins, Frank Hicks, Earl Hicks, Mary Ellen Wimberly, and Marion Hicks. Three sister-in-laws: Lillie Hicks, Clara Hicks, and Lou Ellen Hicks. Two brother-in laws: Ciscero Riggins and Eddie Wimberly; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Henry Hicks will be conducted Wednesday at 12 Noon form the Capel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2:30-4:30 PM at the funeral home. Haisten McCullough Funeral Home, 1155 Everee Inn Road, Griffin is in charge of arrangements.
