James Paul Gooch

James Paul Gooch, 74, of Griffin, GA, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2023, after a tough battle with Parkinson's Disease. Paul was born on March 7, 1949, to James and Mary Gooch of East Point, GA. After graduating from Briarwood High School in 1968, he joined the Navy and was stationed in Pensacola, FL. He married the love of his life, Sandra Hand of Fairburn, GA, in 1970. After serving his country, Paul and Sandra returned to Riverdale, GA, where they would have two sons, Joshua and Micah. The family moved to Griffin, GA in 1979, where they lived the rest of his life. Paul was a wonderful and devoted father, husband, and teacher. Always methodical and thorough, he knew how to fix anything and enjoyed teaching his boys these essential skills. Paul retired from the GA Power Company in 2009 after 31 years of service. He loved coaching baseball and cheering on his kids and grandkids in their athletic endeavors. An avid hunter, Paul loved spending time in the peacefulness of the woods. A disciple of Christ, Paul was an active member of Rock Springs Church, where he attended the Explorers / Seekers small group with his wife. Paul was preceded in death by his father (James Gooch), his mother (Mary Gooch), his sister (Rebecca Snyder), and his brother (Edward Gooch). Paul is survived by his wife Sandra, his sons Joshua (Sherri) and Micah (Cecily), and six grandchildren (Dillon, Rachel, Caleb, Anna, Callan, and Calder). He is also survived by his brothers, Stanley (Shelia) and Allen, along with brother and sister-in-law, Clint and Linda Thomas, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other beloved relatives. Services to celebrate to the life of Mr. James Paul Gooch will be conducted on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 2:00 Pm from the sanctuary of Rock Springs Church. Pastor Cameron Shiflett will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Westwood Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 17, 2023 from 6-8 Pm at the funeral home and on Tuesday from 1:00 Pm until the service hour at the church. The family request In lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Rock Springs Church in memory of Mr. Gooch.
