Hartley McGregor Baker

Hartley McGregor Baker (lovingly known as Cucho) was born in the Republic of Panama on October 29, 1932, to the late Charles Anthony Baker and Ismay Viola Davis Baker. In Panama where he grew up and received his education, shortly after graduating college, Hartley moved to New York City, where he married his soulmate, Hazel Elfrida Gooden Grant Baker. Together, they purchased their home in Queens, NY where they raised their three children. Hartley a hard-working employee of the NYC Postal Service as a mail handler for thirty years. Hartley was a devoted husband and father who was a true disciplinarian (until grands came), he loved listening to music and at home while relaxing in his pajamas which thoroughly earned him the name “Pajama Man”. Mr. Baker was loved by all who knew him. He was a man of little words; however, he was a no-nonsense man with a big heart. In 2023 Hartley and Hazel moved to Griffin, GA to be closer to family. On the evening of Sunday, August 25, 2024, while in his home, Hartley was called to be with the Lord, on August 28, 2024, his brother, Charles Baker also journeyed home, they joined their brother Arturo, who proceed them both. Hartley is survived by his wife Hazel Baker; one daughter, Veronica Preudhomme and husband Ronald of Allentown, PA; two sons, Barry Baker and wife Lelita of Union City, GA and Harley Baker, Jr. and wife Tamiko of Ocala, FL; five grandchildren, Aqueya Washington, Ronald Preudhomme and wife Rosa, Aquasia Baker, Aniyah Baker and Evan Baker; one great-grandson, Gianni Preudhomme; one sister, Norma Jean Baker Davis of Stockbridge, GA; one sister-in-law, Ethlyn of McDonough, GA; dedicated close cousins, Mario Mason and wife Ida; local nieces and nephews, Paul Baker, Tania Baker Brown and Mauricio Baker Mason; local great-nieces and great-nephews, Xavier Lucas, Chris Baker, Michelle Baker, Paul Baker, Jr., Max Baker and Annabel Baker. A host of cousins, extended family members and friends who loved him dearly. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Westwood Gardens.
