Alice Josephine Johnston

It is with broken hearts that we share the home going of our beloved mother, Alice Josephine Eason Johnston, age 89, of Milner, Georgia. She went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord, on November 23, 2024. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Josephine was born in Ellaville, Georgia on February 18, 1935, to the late Joseph Alton Eason and Mattie Josephine Devane. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Joseph Smith Eason, Sr. and Thomas Eugene Eason. She is survived by her younger sister, Jewell Marie Parker. Josephine was called Jo or Josie. She was the person that could light up a room with her smile and joyful personality. She dedicated her life to her family. Josephine bought a sewing machine just after she married and taught herself to sew and then used her talents to make most of her daughters’ clothes while they were growing up. She loved to read and spent a lot of time reading her Bible and praying for her children and grandchildren. She also loved to read books about health and home cures. Josephine was a faithful church member, and through the years spent time teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible school, working in the nursery, and singing in the choir. She considered her highest calling to be a Christian wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was an excellent southern cook and homemaker and was the breath and life of our home. Mrs. Johnston is also survived by her husband of 68 years, Harold Hill Johnston; her daughters, Wanda Joy (Rennie) Mussell and Lisa Gay (Stephen) Smith; grandchildren, Rene´Alissa Mussell, Rachel Joy (Tyler) Melton, Ryan Joseph Johnston (Bethany) Mussell, Rhett Matthew Eason Mussell, Stephanie Elyse (Ben) Mercer, Stephen Evan Johnston Smith, and Seth Ethan Devane Smith; great-granddaughters, Hannah Nicole Mussell and Josie Hope Mussell; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 1, 2024, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Haisten McCullough Funeral Home with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM in the chapel. The burial will follow at Westwood Gardens. Haisten McCullough Funeral Home, 1155 Everee Inn Road, Griffin, Ga. 30224 is in charge of arrangements.
